Building Inspector

The objective of the Asbestos Building Inspector course is to prepare an individual for a position as a building inspector.  The Inspector Course provides material on the following topics:

  • Background Information Regarding the Use of Asbestos
  • The Potential Health Effects Related to Asbestos Exposure
  • Functions, Qualifications, and the Role of the Inspector
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Legal and Insurance Considerations
  • Medical Monitoring
  • Regulatory Prerequisites
  • Understanding Building Systems
  • Conducting an Asbestos Building Inspection
  • Record Keeping and Writing the Inspection Report

The material is presented through various medias including: lectures, slide presentations, videos, and printed material. Demonstrations of materials and equipment used in the discipline are incorporated in the training.  A field trip, which is included in the course, will give the student an opportunity to conduct a walk through inspection; on-site discussion of information gathering and determining sample locations and on-site practices of physical assessment.

Upon completion of the course the student will have the general knowledge to conduct an asbestos building inspection.
