Highland Heights School

Client: Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, KIPP Academy Nashville

Location: Nashville, TN

Project: Gobbell Hays Partners, Inc.'s architectural design studio has been selected by Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to renovate the old 91,000 SF, three-story Highland Heights School building, which has been in-use by KIPP Academy Nashville charter school.  GHP will also utilize its internationally-recognized environmental studio to complete hazardous materials abatement.  KIPP Academy, which currently has 350 students, will expand to accommodate up to 800 students with the addition of a high school.  On track for 2014 project completion.

Details Include:
• Hazardous materials abatement, demolition, renovation and new construction to be implemented by GHP in the 1930s era building
• Environmental assessments prior to razing of specific portions of the existing structure, which includes the 1970s addition and old gymnasium
• Although razing of large portions are necessary, the school's façade will remain in place during demolition and renovation activities
• Full mechanical, electrical and plumbing restorations will be required
• Cafeteria will double as a community meeting center
• Upon completion, KIPP Academy Nashville will be a state-of-the-art, technologically-advanced middle and high school for East Nashville's continued revitalization
