Methamphetamine Lab Remediation (Gablehouse, Caulkins & Granberg)

Client: Gablehouse, Caulkins & Granberg

Location: Northglenn, CO

Project: The law firm of Gablehouse, Caulkins & Granberg enlisted the environmental, health and safety expertise of Gobbell Hays Partners to provide a methamphetamine (meth) contamination assessment, remediation design and project management for two units at an apartment complex in Northglenn, Colorado.

Details Include:
• A North Metro Task Force Prosecution Report indicated that meth cooking activities were taking place in the apartments
• An initial assessment determined these units had contamination levels in excess of the State of Colorado cleanup level of 0.5 µg/100cm_
• GHP developed a project-specific remediation design based on this information

Project challenges included:
• Presence of several asbestos-containing materials that had to be removed to effectively accomplish the meth remediation
• The asbestos materials were contaminated with meth, which created a mixed waste and special handling procedure
• Chlorinated fluorocarbons (CRC’s) had to be reclaimed from meth contaminated appliances, which again required special handling
