Client: Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency
Location: Nashville, TN
Project: The unique environmental and architectural expertise of Gobbell Hays Partners was enlisted by Nashville’s Metropolitan Development and Housing agency for a project that consisted of the demolition of a World War II duplex.
Details Include:
• The removal of asbestos and lead-based paint and the construction of new HOPE VI funded replacement housing
• Completion of a HOPE VI project, a concept in subsidized living to motivate residents toward self-sufficiency
• 140 duplexes (280 units) demolished, with density downsized to 76 duplexes (152 units)
• Designed to be a gated community based on the “new urbanism” planning approach
• Five unit types, including two townhouse designs, combined in different configurations to create seven building types
• A new community center with daycare facilities, along with a full commercial kitchen
• Community classrooms, including one designated for computers
• Boys’ and Girls’ Club facilities
• Administrative offices for the Metropolitan Development and Housing Authority’s management of Vine Hill Homes
